HOW TO APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID?

STEPS TO APPLY

1.

Gather your tax information- Bring your 2015  tax return to the financial aid office.  The U.S. Dept of education requires the review  of your tax return to determine the amount of aid you may qualify for.

2.

Complete the FAFSA:  There are helpful hints on the app to assist you.  You will need IGU's school code:  042190 &  your FSAID to complete the FAFSA.  To obtain your FSAID visit www.fsaid.ed.gov

Although a Financial Aid officer cannot legally complete the FAFSA for you, they are more than willing to help with any questions you may have.

Find out your award eligibility: After your FAFSA is submitted, you will receive an e-mail notifying you of your award amount.  At this point in the process you are not committed to accept the entire award amount.  The financial aid office can help you understand the types of awards before you accept them.

3.

4.

Determine your Financial Commitment: Before committing to an award,  take into  consideration the cost of the program, time commitment, and whether you will work while in school or not.  All of these factors can help determine your educational expenses.  Set an appointment with your Financial Aid Office so they can help you to calculate the cost of program and your personal budget for college.

Evaluate Loans:  Before accepting the loans determine whether or not your financial commitment to college requires a loan.  If you need further clarification on the loans contact the financial Aid office and they can help you to evaluate the benefits of the loan.

5.

6.

Make a Decision  After considering all of your expenses this is the time to elect whether you want to accept the entire awarded amounts  of aid.  Once you have made the decision to accept the loan you will  need to complete and sign the master promissory note.  The Financial Aid Office can guide you through these steps.

7.

Congratulations! You are now able to register for your classes Remember to contact the Financial Aid Office with any additional questions about financial aid, programs or enrollment status changes.
